Former Redskins player speaks candidly about being gay and living with HIV

Chicago Sun Times

ROY SIMMONS, former offensive lineman with the New York Giants who played in the Super Bowl for the Washington Redskins -- and was the first NFL player to divulge that he is not only gay but HIV-positive -- has published his memoir Out of Bounds, now in bookstores around the country. The book details all the trauma in his life including being raped at age 11 by a mailman in Georgia.

Simmons testified Tuesday at a state hearing in Boston on behalf of the Coalition to Reform Sex Abuse Laws. Simmons is now sober (still gay) and living in Martha's Vineyard.
