Former Redskins player speaks candidly about being gay and living
with HIV
|
Chicago Sun Times |
ROY SIMMONS, former offensive lineman with the New York Giants who played in the Super Bowl for the Washington Redskins -- and was the first NFL player to divulge that he is not only gay but HIV-positive -- has published his memoir Out of Bounds, now in bookstores around the country. The book details all the trauma in his life including being raped at age 11 by a mailman in Georgia.
Simmons testified Tuesday at a state hearing in Boston on behalf of
the Coalition to Reform Sex Abuse Laws. Simmons is now sober (still
gay) and living in Martha's Vineyard.
